Summer Cereal Station

4th of JulyAmy WileyComment

If there was ever a chance for this little set-up to shine, it’s in my home during the summer months.  My answer to “what’s for breakfast?” is “whatever you make yourself!” Enter the cereal station.

Clearly I was more concerned with a patriotic color scheme than nutritional information. Hey... it’s summer.  The offerings include red and blue Rice Krispies, Special K Red Berries, and a mix of blueberry and strawberry Frosted Mini Wheats.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that the minute this was set up we started helping ourselves to bowls of breakfast bliss.

As always, this is an ideal setup for overnight guests too.

Movie Night: Yankee Doodle Dandy

4th of July, Movie NightAmy WileyComment

We’re throwing it allll the way back to 1942 for movie night in honor of the USA with Yankee Doodle Dandy.   It’s a delightful celebration of the red, white and blue... in black and white.  You'll find yourself singing along!

We love watching old movies as a family, especially musicals.  This one is full of dancing, beauty, laughs and many familiar songs.

We kept the menu simple and American:  cheddar brats, potato salad, and chopped BBQ ranch salad.  This is an easy but delicious dinner dressed up to celebrate the 4th of July.

Ice cream with patriotic flare made for the most festive dessert.

Gather your people for some dinner from the grill and a bit of American nostalgia.

My Patriotic Porch

4th of JulyAmy WileyComment

Our wrap-around porch is our favorite "room" at our house in the warmer months.  It's where we eat, read, play and relax.  I love sprucing it up for the season and this year I went with a full patriotic theme.

I picked up this rug for our front door and it adds such a fun touch.

Inexpensive flags add some flare to my flowerpots.

A dear friend made us this bench as a wedding gift.  Reversible flag pillows add a pop of summer color.

I added these pillows to our Cracker Barrel rocking chairs.

Our side porch is my personal favorite.  This is where I read (and sometimes nap) while my kids play outside.  A couple of the reversible pillows and a star pillow make it festive for the fourth.

I shared our outdoor table as part of my Three Patriotic Tablescapes for Summer.   We eat out here whenever possible.

Lastly, a few more flags bring cheer to my window boxes.
