Movie Night: Dumbo

This movie night will have you flying high on sugar! The circus theme is simple and fun, affording plenty of tasty treats.   A summer dinner off the grill and plenty of movie snacks make this one a great fit for a July evening.

Cotton candy, animal crackers and circus animal cookies... don’t tell the dentist!   Sure, just one of these would suffice, but I’m not known for restraint.  All this paired with a Disney classic film, what’s not to love?

This movie is sweet, sometimes sad, and also timeless.  It’s great to share movies we remember from childhood with our own family. 

You can take the circus theme as far as you wish, or keep it low-key like us.  Either way, you’ll fall in love with Dumbo all over again.

Star-Spangled Shortcake

This is an easy dessert that just hits the spot on a summer evening.  It's more of an assembly than a recipe.  Grab a spoon and dig into Star-Spangled Shortcake.

To make this oh-so-patriotic treat, you'll just need berries, pre-made pound cake or angel food cake, heavy whipping cream (and a little powdered sugar) and sprinkles.

Whip up the cream with a little powdered sugar to sweeten.

Cut your pound cake up into cubes and add to your serving glasses or dishes.

Add a nice mix of red and blue berries.  I mean... it's pretty much just a healthy snack, right?

Top with whipped cream and festive sprinkles.

This is a perfect treat for your 4th of July gathering.  Enjoy!

Movie Night: Bee Movie

This cute movie is all the buzz for summer!

This one is from our family archives (pre-dating the blog) but I wanted to share because it's summery and enjoyable for all ages.  A simple meal of burgers from the grill and lemonade were on the menu.

The "bee" theme is so simple to pull off... lots of yellow and black.  We love that the main character in this movie is voiced by Jerry Seinfeld.  There are plenty of laughs for kids and parents alike!
