We adored this movie… however, as always, I want you to make an informed choice about whether it is a fit for your family. My recommendation is that this one is best suited for older kids, due to (unfortunately) some language. It’s rated PG, and set in 1977 which means plenty of smoking and some drinking. Read a detailed account of the content here. Those things aside, it offers great lessons about acceptance and perseverance.

The previews for Troop Zero reveal a clear vision for the look of the movie… lots of yellow and green through a filter of 1970’s scouting glory. For the dinner table, I used a camping-themed table runner I had on hand from a birthday party. Green paper place mats adorned with camping stickers represented the sashes and coveted badges that are a major theme throughout the movie. I tied a yellow cloth napkin around each plate in a “neck scarf” style. The result was absolutely darling, cost-effective, and fit perfectly with the film!

A simple dinner of burgers from the grill with chips and salad was fitting. For dessert, we continued the camp theme with microwaved s’mores.

I loved that this movie showed how being yourself is so much more interesting and fun than conforming to fit in. I loved how misfit kids found each other and formed true, supportive friendships. This movie made us laugh a lot, but by the end I was SOBBING at the sweetness and heart of it all. Give Troop Zero a try!

20 Days to Celebrate in 2020

Something to CelebrateAmy WileyComment

It’s no secret we love a celebration around here. Finding little reasons to do something out of the ordinary is one of the ways I make life fun in my household. While the “big” holidays line up rather perfectly this year, (hello Halloween on a Saturday and Christmas on a Friday!) there are many other days worth celebrating. 2020 offers a leap year, the Olympics, and a presidential election. Buckle up and get ready to party! I’ve complied my top 20 favorites into a handy printable for you. Click here to get yours!
